Alaska

This political cartoon addresses the purchase of Alaska. I know this because Russian America is also known as Alaska. The cartoonist thinks that people hated the idea of this this because it was a waste of money. I say this because the look on the guy to the lefts face is grim and angry towards the other man. Some people may say that it was a waste of money and time. One technique used was labeling. They did this to show what was being moved. The cartoonist also used analogy. They did this by comparing Alaska to a block of ice. This however does support my claim that America can go to far but not always.

This cartoon addresses the Monroe doctrine. I know this because in the gate it shows the Monroe doctrine. The cartoonist believes that America saw this as a privilege. I say this because it shows Sam telling them that if they behave that the Monroe doctrine will stand. Some people see this as good because then They are protected by America. One technique used was symbolism. The cartoonist did this to show what each country was doing. Another technique used was labeling. The cartoonist did this to represent the Monroe doctrine. This again supports my claim that America had too much power.

Hawaii

This political cartoon addresses the American expansionism over Hawaii. It shows this by having Uncle Sam take Hawaii. The cartoonist believes that America was making the other countries get out of his way so that he could take Hawaii. You can see this because Uncle Sam tells the other countries to stand back while he enjoys Hawaii. Many people might see this as a good thing because with Hawaii America has more resources and a naval base. One technique used was symbolism. The cartoonist used symbolism to show what countries were doing at the time. Another technique used was labeling. The cartoonist used labeling to show what Uncle Sam was taking. This cartoon supports my claim that America will do whatever it takes to get what they want.

American Imperialism with Uncle Sam

This political cartoon addresses American Imperialism trying to take over the whole world. You can see this because Uncle Sam is holding on to Earth as if he wants it all for himself. The cartoonist believes that America wouldn't ever stop trying to take over. I believe this because in the cartoon it reads, "Now, will he let go? If you think he will let go, then you don't know him." Some people might see this as bad because they want to have their own countries and not all be America. One technique used was symbolism. The cartoonist used Uncle Sam to show what America was trying to do. The cartoonist also used labeling. this was to show what Sam was holding onto. My claim was that America can sometimes go to far in their quest for manifest destiny and this cartoon clearly shows that.

Panama Canal

This political cartoon addresses the building of the Panama Canal. I know this because in the cartoon it shows Roosevelt digging up the Panama Canal. the cartoonist believes that Roosevelt will even push his own people out of the way to get what he wants. They show this by having Roosevelt dig up his own citizens. In this cartoon the cartoonist used exaggeration. They did this by saying that Roosevelt dug the whole canal. The cartoonist also used labeling on the canal. They did this to represent what Roosevelt was digging. This cartoon also supports my claim the American Imperialism can go too far.

Open Door Policy

Image result for open door policy political cartoon

This political cartoon addresses the Open Door Policy. You can tell because there is an open door leading into China and other nations heading into China. The cartoonist believes that America controlled who traded with China and that America was growing much bigger than other nations. The cartoonist shows this by having America hold the key to China. Also by having America standing in  front of the door, and keeping other nations out. Many people saw this as unfair, and want it to end. This is because many Chinese thought that the other nations were trying to take control of China. Others saw that as a new opportunity to gain more resources, farming land, and natural resources. This cartoonist used the technique of symbolism. They did this by using Uncle Sam and other people to symbolize the nations. The cartoonist also used labeling on the key and the gate of the door. They did this to show what the door was going to and to show what made China open up to the outside world. This cartoon supports my claim that American Imperialism can be good and bad. It is bad because America tried to control China, but it was good because now America had new resources and agriculture.

This political cartoon addresses the Roosevelt Corollary enforcing the Monroe Doctrine. I know this because Europe is trying to claim the Republic of Santo Domingo, but Theodore Roosevelt is stopping Europe with the Monroe doctrine. The cartoonist believes that Europe saw this as unfair. You can tell this because the look on Europe's face is disgusted and shows hatred and anger towards Roosevelt. Some people might say that this is a good thing because It makes there a less likely chance that more countries will go to war. Others might see this as bad because other countries might stop trade as a way to get back at America for keeping them away. One technique the cartoonist used was labeling. They used labeling to show what each represent the countries. Another technique used was symbolism. The cartoonist used symbolism to show what each country was trying to do. This cartoon addresses my claim that America can sometimes go to far when it came to imperialism.
